Met by Conference Call Aug 29 Six states participated. Have asked EPA to assign a representative. Agenda for the call: Reviewed status of proposed 2013 standards revision. Discussed issues for upcoming 2015 standards revision Discussed use of $40,000 earmarked for nutrients criteria development.

Potential Issues for 2015 PCS Review Total mercury water quality criterion Is 12 ng/L the correct number? Should it be “never to be exceeded” or average over time? Is mixing zone prohibition appropriate for Ohio River? Bacteria criteria ORSANCO adopted EPA’s original proposal – 90 day geo mean. EPA adopted more stringent criteria. ORSANCO’s criteria less stringent than all states so not applicable for 305b or permitting.

2015 Potential Issues (cont.) Temperature for aquatic life protection Winter-time criteria were revised in 2012. Summertime criteria were not revised due to last minute comment regarding inaccurate data point. Should revisit summertime criteria. TDS There was an agreement that the TDS criterion should be revisited after completion of the TDS report. Bromide Water Users Advisory Committee requested Br criterion be investigated.

2015 Potential Issues (cont.) Ammonia for Aquatic Life EPA has new national recommended criterion. Cadmium & Selenium. Ohio working on cadmium criteria. KY working on selenium criteria.

Development of Numeric Nutrient Criteria Received $40,000 WV SEP funding. Targeted for use in Ohio River nutrient criteria development. Options: Convene expert panel to review ORSANCO data and analyses, and develop a work plan. Hold workshop on large rivers nutrient criteria development. Investigate use of WERF Nutrient Modeling toolbox with possible contractor support. TEC input ???
