Grasslands By: Kaylee Elijah
3
Where are Grasslands? Grasslands are found on both sides of two desert belts. Grasslands are located in North America’s interior (called prairies), in southeastern South America (Argentina’s pampas and the Campos of Uruguay and Brazil), in Eurasia.

5
What is a grassland? A grassland is a grassy, windy, partly-dry biome, a sea of grass. Almost one-fourth of the Earth’s land area is grassland.
6
Animal and Plant Adaptations in a Grassland
The animals and plants that live in grasslands have adapted to dry, windy conditions. There are grazing animals (that eat grass), burrowing animals, and their predators; insects are abundant.

Animals That Live in Grasslands
Many animals live in grasslands, From invertebrates (like grasshoppers and beetles) to large mammals (like antelope and bison).

The Rain In grasslands the grass is usually light brown, but when the rain falls the grass starts to have a shade of green because some rain starts to reach the roots.
15
How tall can the grass grow?
The grassland grass grows to the height of two to three feet. Each year the grass grows four to five inches.

17
Two Types Of Grasslands
Tropical grasslands- hot all year with wet seasons that bring torrential rains. Temperate grasslands- hot summers and cold winters. The evaporation rate is high, so little rain makes it into rich soil.

Information on a Grassland Food Web
A grassland food web have producers such as the trees, shrubs, and grass. The primary consumers like zebras, and elephants. Next are secondary consumers, mostly cheetahs and hyenas. Then are scavengers like termites, vultures, and hyenas. After that are decomposers such as bacteria, fungi, and invertebrates.

24
Why are they Grasslands?
They are grasslands because they are mostly a whole piece of earth covered with tall grass, which is similar to a meadow.

Now you have probably learned much about my biome, grasslands.
