Make a name tent with your title on it – peasant, noble, etc. Peasants, workers, servants, bourgeoisie give 20% of your income to your local noble (1 livre if you have 4-5 / 2 if you have 9-10) Peasants, workers, servants, bourgeoisie give 10% of your income to your local clergy (1 livre for all) Peasants, workers, servants, bourgeoisie give 20% of your income to your king (1 livre if you have 4-5 / 2 if you have 9-10)

3 Estates (Classes) First Estate : Clergy (Catholic Church): Very powerful Owned 10% of land Paid 2% in taxes Approx 1% of population

Second Estate Nobles: wealthy aristocrats Very powerful: controlled peasants Owned 20% of land Paid almost no taxes About 2% of population

Third Estate : everyone else! A.Bourgeoisie: middle class, business owners, often well educated – read Enlightenment philosophes B.Workers: poor servants & other workers C.Peasants: poor (usually farmers, 90% of the population) **paid ½ their income in taxes**
