Microsoft Power Point ® Facilitation Training Computer-enabled Instructional Possibilities Composing Presentations Picking a Style Adding Multimedia Content Using ES Program Resources Posting Power Point on the Web Transitioning to High-end Authoring Tools

Cyber-tools Multimedia…examples, style, mood, impact, reinforcement Hypertext…navigation, learner preference, efficiency Interactivity…navigation, self test, level of inquiry E-community…email, comment posting, on- line conferencing

Computers provide the instructor/composer with opportunities to package and deliver information in such a way as to enhance the learning experience. Each of the terms above describe computer-enabled features of a lecture, presentation, or instructional module. Used properly, they can enrich the communication between teacher and learner. However, it is important not to let these tools distract from or dilute the message. Plus, computers are no substitute for professorial wisdom, mentoring, or experiential learning. The challenge is to use computers to enhance these attributes of a teacher- learner relationship. The instruction that follows illustrates these concepts as enabled by various kinds of presentation/ authoring software. Included in the program is a discussion of instructional design intended help the professor to preserve the essential integrity of the teacher-learning relationship even while deploying these information technologies.

Power Point and the Web Designing web pages Posting for viewing and/or download

Power point presentations may be rather clumsily converted to HTML (the primary language of the internet) and posted on the web as a web pages Power point presentations--for instance, as used in a lecture--may be posted on a web site and accessed/downloaded for viewing

Power Point vs Toolbook II Assistant Power Point ( */ppt ) widely available easy authoring clumsy navigation limited interactivity not really designed for web good for day-to-day personal use Toolbook ( */tbk ) not widely available challenging authoring easy navigation highly interactive supposedly transfers well to web suited for ambitious multi-disciplinary projects

This comparison concludes the Power Point training. Power Point is user friendly software with which skill increases dramatically as experience is gained. Power Point also has the advantage of being widely available, which facilitates information sharing via email, diskettes, and the web. Power Point has a few limitations which will be illustrated in our demonstration of Toolbook II Assistant and Instructor, much more advanced authoring software. Toolbook and other high-end authoring tools are well-suited for multi-discliplinary collaborations supported by cyber- instructional specialists.
