Objectives Recall the three body types and their defining characteristics Identify what your ideal body weight is Be able to calculate Body Mass Index as well as determine if you are overweight or obese. Employ safe methods of weight loss as well as understand unhealthy weight gain and weight loss Apply resources found at Mypyramid to a healthy body weight or to the development of a healthy body weight Design an achievable diet that promotes healthy living

Terms Body composition – The ratio of fat to muscle, bone, and other body tissues Somatotype – Body Type Endomorph – A body type with a large, soft bulging body and a pear-shaped appearance Mesomorph – a body type with a solid, muscular, and large boned physique Ectomorph – A body type with a slender, slight build

Terms Overweight – a condition that exceeds the desirable weight by 10%, according to height and weight charts Obese – having an excessive amount of body fat Ideal Body Weight – the amount a person weighs if he or she has an appropriate percentage of body fat Anorexia Nervosa – an eating disorder in which a person refuses to eat normally, resulting in extreme thinness and even starvation Bulimia – an eating disorder characterized by overeating followed by self-induced vomiting, use of laxatives, or very strenuous exercise to avoid weight gain

This under the assumption that you expended minimal calories. Basically that you stayed in bed all day Women: BMR = ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years ) Men: BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) - ( 6.8 x age in year ) Or the Cheater’s way
