2 Aids Awareness. HIV is a virus (which can lead to AIDS) that is found in blood and other body fluids,to be passed on you need to allow some body fluid from an infected person to get inside your body.

3 Aids Awareness. You can be infected through – Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner, Sharing needles when injecting or other use of contaminated injection or other skin-piercing equipment, Blood and blood products, for example, infected transfusions and organ or tissue transplants, Transmission from infected mother to child in the womb or at birth and breastfeeding.

4 Aids Awareness. You cannot be infected by – Casual physical contact, Coughing, sneezing or kissing, Sharing toilet and washing facilities, Using eating utensils or consuming food and beverages handled by someone who has HIV, Mosquitoes or other insect bites.

5 Aids Awareness. “The number of people living with HIV has risen from around 8 million in 1990 to nearly 40 million today, and is still growing. Around 63% of people living with HIV are in sub- Saharan Africa.” www.avert.org
