Why We Serve  There are 868,237 school-age active duty dependent children (ages 3-18) worldwide. – Over 80% are enrolled in U.S. Public Schools; and – Less than 4% are eligible to attend DoDEA’s 53 CONUS schools (on 13 of the 204 CONUS military installations).  More than three-quarters of active duty military families live in civilian communities. 2

3. Interstate Compact Ex-Officio Role  To solidify our commitment and ensure DoD remains in concert with making the Compact an effective vehicle for all military dependent students, DoDEA has been designated to represent DoD as an ex- officio member to the MIC3.  The DoD Ex-Officio focus areas include: – BUILDING AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING of the Compact within the DoD Communities; – IDENTIFYING AND ANALAYZING the issues that present challenges and opportunities to maximizing Compact implementation; and – EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATING with key stakeholders by delivering timely, accurate information. 3
