High altitude concrete pour
High altitude concrete pour. Workers build a spectator footpath around the vertical slopes of the Shifou Mountain in China.
2
Thousands of meters up the slopes of the Shifou Mountain in the Hunan Province, China, a team of workers, operating with little safety equipment, is building a footpath.
3
Workers are building a spectator walkway on the side of a mountain that, once finished, will stretch a full 3km (9843 ft) and become China's longest sightseeing footpath.
4
48-year-old Yu Ji (shown above) is one of the construction workers and he has been working on high cliffs building such wooden-plank plank walkways for more than ten years. He states, "young people don't want this job, as it requires them to remain deep in the mountains for months; even years."
5
Yu Ji takes charge of the most dangerous part of the project – drilling the holes into which pipes will be placed horizontally to support the footpath.
8
Building a spectator walkway on the Shifou Mountain is extremely difficult because the cliffs stand vertical at 90 degrees, without slopes or alcoves.
