Classroom Rules Be respectful to self, others and property – You will dress, talk, and behave in a manner that is constructive and promotes a positive learning environment Come to class with your school supplies Take care of personal grooming before class Raise your hand before you speak Listen to and follow directions Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself Keep electronics turned off and out of sight Only water is allowed in the classroom Keep your head up at all times and your eyes open Be in your assigned seat when the tardy bell rings Take pride in your work ***If I ask you to step outside…
7
Strategies for Success Read and write voraciously Do your own thinking Do your best work Ask questions when you don’t understand Contribute your ideas when working with a group Take responsibility for being successful by completing assignments and meeting deadlines
9
Grading Grades will be determined by the content and quality of the student’s work and should be completed thoughtfully and carefully. Daily Grades: 40% Assessments: 60%
11
Late Work It is expected that you will turn in your work ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE. No late work will be accepted 3 days after assigned due date. You can earn no higher than a 70 on late work.
12
Absences/Make-Up Work You have the same number of days you were absent to turn in missed work. YOU are responsible for obtaining your make-up work. Make-up work cannot be given to you during instruction time. You will need to meet with me before or after class to get your work. State Law requires that students must be in attendance for a minimum of 90% of the days that the class is offered in order to receive credit for that course. Students who miss more than 10% (or more than 4 absences PER semester) could lose credit and be retained. In other words, do NOT miss class.
13
Tardies A student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings is considered tardy. Tardy students will only be allowed in the room without a tardy pass. Two or more tardies in a week equal a Saturday school, during which you will have to complete a packet of work and stay for four hours on a Saturday morning on campus to make up the seat time you missed.
14
Cheating You are guilty of cheating whenever you present as your own work something that you did not do. The penalty for cheating is a phone call home and a zero for the assignment. Common forms of cheating include: Plagiarism - writing using another’s words or ideas without proper citation. Copying someone else’s work (tests, homework, class work, etc.) Using notes when not allowed by the teacher Using your phone to find answers when not allowed by the teacher Group work-allowing others in your group to do your share of the thinking and contributing
