Cavities and Linings 1. The Cranial Cavity and the Vertebral Canal each are lined by the thick Dura Mater. The Dura Mater turns inward to surround the brain, in the Cranial Cavity, and is called the Meningeal Layer 2. The Thoracic Cavity’s Pleural Cavities are each lined by a serous membrane, called Pleura 3. The Abdominal Cavity’s internal surface of the abdominal wall is lined by the peritoneum, which drapes, but does not reach the pelvic floor
