2. Mission We will prepare students for college in a supportive, small school environment that fosters academic success through greater relevance to students’ culture, community, and personal lives. HS 2 will serve Beaverton’s diverse population of students and families by working with community partners to provide a rigorous and innovative health and science education. 4. Student Population The Health and Science School is located in the Beaverton School District and is a district-wide option school. Approximately 44% of our students are living in poverty. Of these students, 33% are Hispanic, 4% African American, 12% are English language learners, 13% are students with disabilities, and 52% of our students are female (48% of the students in our engineering courses are female). Through ongoing recruiting efforts, we work to maintain this diversity.

Theories of Action #1: Depth-over-breadth (graduate school level) experiences in the sciences will engage and motivate more students to strive for college readiness. #2: Equally important to the teaching of content and skills, HS2 strives to assist each and every student to acquire the identity of a successful college student.
