A PowerPoint By Lauren Martinez

THEN NOW In the summer of 2004, Brittany(13) and Robbie(12) Bergquist had $21 dollars to spend and used it to start an organization to give soldiers prepaid cell phones so they can call home to their families. Now, I’ll be more than glad to tell their story.

On their summer vacation, Brittany and Robbie heard that a soldier had spent over $8000 on phone bills from calling his family while serving in Iraq. They decided to do something about the situation.

With their own $21 dollars, Brittany and Robbie made a 501c3 non- profit organization that gave soldiers prepaid cell phones so they could call their families while serving over seas.

Today, Cell Phones For Soldiers has raised $7,ooo,ooo dollars, 8.3 prepaid cell phones, and has provided 114 million minutes of free phone calls for soldiers overseas so they can communicate with their families.

We can help give cells to soldiers by donating money or buying flowers. That is all you have to do is donate money or buy a flower to help let soldiers communicate with their families.

Brittany and Robbie won the Samuel S. Beard Award For Greatest Public Service by an Individual 35 and Under in 2011 and other very important awards that probably can’t fit on this page. They have proved that age doesn’t matter when making a difference and no one is too young to improve our world. Today they are still working hard on getting phones for soldiers.
