2 Ensemble is… A university project to deliver new email, calendar, and related services –Faculty and staff: Email and calendar provided through Exchange starting Sept. 2009 –Students: Email, etc. provided via Google Apps Educa-tion Edition as of April 2009, plus Microsoft Live@edu with Exchange Labs expected fall 2009

3 Why? –Difficult to use with iPhone, BlackBerry, etc. –Multiple calendar systems make scheduling meetings hard –Some units already using Exchange, others requesting it –(students) Most students already forwarding email to external services –(students) Provide much larger mailbox size and features that students want

4 Ensemble is shaped by… Cross-campus task force recommendations Cross-campus Executive Steering Committee, project advisory groups Needs assessments – students, faculty, staff Specific requirements – campus units Exchange pilot

6 Email – faculty and staff Delivered through campus-wide Exchange system Starting September 2009; migration through April 2010 (estimated) Can use current email client or switch to Outlook (Windows) or Entourage (Mac) Changes required for everyone: –Updating a setting in your email client –Using Outlook Web Access instead of Cornell WebMail

7 Calendar – faculty and staff Delivered through campus-wide Exchange system Integrated with email; better mobile device support Available after email is migrated Oracle Calendar will remain primary calendar until most users are on Exchange, then it will be retired Changes required for everyone: –Using Outlook, Entourage, or Outlook Web Access instead of Oracle Calendar –Re-booking future meetings

9 Students Cmail, powered by Google Apps Education Edition, to replace Cornell postoffice accounts for students –New students get Cmail with their NetID –Current students to be offered Cmail in late April Includes email, calendar, and collaboration features No advertising while enrolled at Cornell Email address is still NetID@cornell.edu Expect to add Microsoft Live@edu with Exchange Labs as another choice in fall 2009
