How do we begin creating a self-assessing student? 1.Demonstration of Expectations must be verbally given to students. Demonstration of Expectations must be visually given to students. Create a rubric with the students watching you and telling you what (great, proficient, star, 4) and so on.

How do you use the rubric you have created? Hang the rubric where it can be referenced to as students work by you and the student. Encourage the students to look at the rubric when they say they are finished. Use language from the rubric when assessing “finished” work.

How do you use the rubric for peer-peer assessment? You first must have a lesson on using helpful language and how to accept the suggestions as they are meant. Which is to help us be better students. Using a document camera or holding up the paper for all to see. Students offer constructive suggestions to one another on making their work better. Students then get time to put the advice to use on their piece. * note: make a note as the teacher the suggestion made for the student because they tend to forget
