6 NOTES The line of authority that extends from the top to the bottom of an organization is called the Chain of Command Delegating - Means of assigning certain duties to other employees (ex: receiving job instructions from your supervisor). This is also an example of line authority.

7 Notes A manager with a large number of subordinates is said to have a wide span of control. GRAPEVINE – Positive- supporting needy, family helping with donations for charity, negative – strikes Solid vertical lines on an organization chart indicate relationships between line positions Diagonal or dotted lines can represent staff positions
