6 Cultural change in New Zealand/Aotearoa
New Zealand began as a ‘nation’ in 1840 with strong ties to England. Through the 20th century these ties weakened, and in 1993 The PM Jim Bolger made the statement that ‘New Zealand was an Asian country’ In 2015 our largest trading partners are China and Australia, and we are still seen as a western nation.
