Argentina’s Flag Argentina’s flag is light blue and white with a yellow sun in the center of the white. The "Sun of May“ is in the center of the flag. The flag is twice as wide as it is tall. This flag was adopted on February 12, 1812, four years before Argentina declared independence from Spain (1816).

Argentina Arts The most popular Argentina dance is the tango. Buenos Aires is also popular for its ballet and opera. While there are many traditional forms of music and Spanish language traditional and popular music, US popular music is also on Artentina’s top hits list today. For example, the songs Rude! And Chandelier. Buenos Aires has beautiful murals. Argentina has many forms of pottery and paintings. Carlos Alonso is a famous painter.

Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina. Mt. Fitz Roy is a high mountain in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. The Andes Mountains are the longest mountain range in the world. The Valdes Peninsula is an important nature reserve and a World Heritage Site.

Fun Facts Buenos Aires is known as the “Paris of the South.” Patagonia, the beautiful gateway to the Antarctica, is the most southern city in the world. There is a popular play and movie about Eva Peron called Evita and Madonna was in the movie. The Andes Mountains form the backbone of Argentina.
