The guards should set themselves up half a boat length from the goalies nose The chasers start in front of the guards and wider

As the 1 st chaser moves to the ball carrier the 2 nd chaser pauses at one of the passing options to encourage the pass to the other option Opt 2 Opt 1

As soon as the ball carrier commits to his pass the 2 nd chaser sprints to the receiver Opt 2 Opt 1

The new ball carrier now has two options again. The 2nd chaser is challenging the ball carrier while the 1 st chaser is now pausing at Opt 1 to encourage the pass to go to Opt 2 Opt 2 Opt 1

As soon as the ball carrier commits to his pass the 1 st chaser sprints to the receiver Opt 2 Opt 1 This pattern is repeated and enables the chasers to apply pressure on the receiver of a pass sooner. The objective being to force a bad pass rather than tackle the ball carrier.

The role of the guard is to keep the attackers on the outside of their zone.

As the attacker hits, the guard should push the attacker out The other guard should be aware of this contest.

The 1 st guard then hands the attacker over to the 2 nd guard being careful not to allow the attackers nose to get on the inside of the 2 nd guard. The 2 nd guard can assist by angling their nose to receive the attacker

In most cases the attacker will now leave the zone area. Throughout this defensive move both guards need to be aware of any other attackers driving into their zone

When an overload occurs the guard and closest chaser take care of it

The guard takes the 1 st attacker and the chaser takes the 2 nd player to shut down the overload The chaser should use either their tail or nose to get to the attacker, whichever is more efficient
