3. Promotional reasons A promotional video is mainly used to promote the artist. It can be used to promote the artists style. Some artists such as Lady Gaga are mostly known for there fashion style and a music video can be used to portray an artists style. A music video can also be used for advertising an artists products. For example artists like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have a line of headphones and to promote their headphones, they wear their headphones in the music videos. Justin Bieber headphones  Lady Gaga’s fashion  A music video can be a visual engagement and allows the audience to have an engagement with the artists. It can promote collaborations between artists. It can promote an event coming up that the artists are apart of such as a charity event like Children In Need, the Olympics or Eurovision. Girls Aloud did a music video for Children In Need and Coldplay performed at the Olympics.

4. Extension of income A music video allows the artist to have another form of income. The amount of people who watch music videos is huge. With the internet, it is so easy for people to view a music video. The artist will then receive extra income for anyone that watches their music video. The more views a music video has, the more money the artists will receive. Plus with having a music video, the artists have a higher chance of making money as it promotes their music so they listen to more of their music as well as watching more videos. Also the price to buy a music video from iTunes is higher that the cost of a song. There is also music video DVD’s that people can purchase such as live concert DVD’s.

5. Extension of outlet By having a music video, this allows there to be more ways for a the band to be seen and heard. A music video can be shown in any place that there is a screen. This includes; airports, cafes, pubs, waiting rooms and colleges. Music videos are shown in pretty much any building we go into. 4music is a popular music channel that is probably shown more in public places as it shows music that is more popular. MTV is pretty big but that doesn't’t really have music on it anymore and when it does, its usually not the most popular music. As well as all of these places, the internet is a huge place where people can view music videos because it is so easy. Plus the ability to share the video on social networking sites such as Facebook is so easy, by sharing the video, more people can view it and the artists get more money. YouTube is probably the most popular and used website to view videos. This includes music videos.

6. Link to film or TV A music video can be made because a particular song has a link with a film. For example, the film Armageddon has a link with Aerosmith- I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing. Making a music video to go with a song is beneficial because as it makes the songs very popular because many people have watched these movies and these movies were so big. Because these films are big blockbuster movies, linking a music video to them is a great way to promote the artist.

7. Producers strategies The types of music videos there can be is indie, major, YouTube and Xfactor. Indie music videos tend to be more artistic and cleverly made. Major music videos are the music that we see al the time and these are for the mainstream songs that are popular at the time. YouTube videos are made for an artist that isn’t particularly that well known at the moment. They can also be fan made videos that are made for a song that is already big but a fan decided that they had a good concept for a music video and just made one. Xfactor is massive and this is a clever way of getting artists known because of just how big it is but also because they perform in front of an audience, even on there first audition, the audience is already right there.
