What is a disability? The condition of being disabled. Limitation in ability due to physical or mental impairment.

55 million Americans with disabilities Wide variety: physical, chronic health, impairments, mental retardation, mental illness, and visual, hearing or speech Vary in level: mild to severe. Severest forms are; blindness, deafness, and paralysis

American with Disabilities Act ADA passed in 1990 addresses four main areas. Employment Public services Public accommodations Telecommunications ( The ADA makes it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities )

What could be done to accommodate people with disabilities in society? Choose one area and discuss it within a group? Remember the ADA makes it illegal to discriminate against people with disabilities. It also requires that accommodations be made for people disabilities in public services. Come up with observations, points and questions to share with the class about how what is in place or needs to be done to help people living with disabilities.
