2 SCG meeting 15-16 May 2006 Rationale & Objective Projected climate change and its impacts on water cycle will likely to lead into higher ecological and socio-economic pressures and costs in Europe; –What are the key policy challenges related to climate change impacts on water management, mitigation of risks and uncertainties? –What are the current scientific outcomes and can those be taken aboard policy development? –What are the key research topics that would need to be addressed at the European level in the future?

5 SCG meeting 15-16 May 2006 Preliminary programme (2) 4 sessions, with 5-6 invited presentations in each 1.Climate change impacts on water cycle and resources - floods and water scarcity; 2.Climate change impacts on water quality – nutrients, organic content, toxic compounds, ecological status and biodiversity; 3.Economic and social impacts related to the changes of water cycle and resources; 4.Adaptation needs of the water resources management in Europe;
