1. Urbanization ► Urbanization – people moving to cities…why ► Factories are in the cities…walk to work ► Overpopulation too many people, not enough places to live

2. Working Conditions ► Factories were dirty and unsanitary ► Very Low Wages, 12-16 hour days, child labor ► Dangerous and deadly (loss of fingers, arms, legs) ► If you don’t want the job…don’t take it…there are MANY others who will take it

3. Social Classes ► Upper class getting richer (factory owners) ► An Upper Middle Class emerges (doctors and lawyers) ► Lower Middle Class emerges (office workers, shop owners) ► Most of population are poor (factory workers)

4. Living Conditions ► No regulation Codes ► No sewage, No garbage, Little running water ► Slums begin in the cities ► Many people, multiple families living in one bedroom apartments
