2 ALLERGIES- immune response to substances that usually are not recognized as foreign. TISSUE REJECTION- occurs when T cells bring about destructions of foreign bodies. (Transplanted Organs)

3 AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE- disease that results when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. BLOOD-TYPE REACTION- potentially deadly reaction when blood is transfused with a person where blood does not match the donors.

5 AGGLUTINATION- clumping of red blood cells due to a reaction between antigens on red blood cell plasma membranes and antibodies in the plasma. RH SYSTEM- antigen found in red blood cells, 89% of us has it.

7 HEMOLYTIC DISEASE OF THE NEWBORN When mothers red blood cells reach the baby, and the babies red blood cells are to immature to make their own. So without a blood transfusion for the baby, brain damage, retardation and maybe even death.

8 QUESTIONS What are allergies? a.) Something that doesn’t cause trouble with body. b.) Immune response to substances not usually foreign. c.) Something that makes you sneeze. What causes tissue rejection? a.) Tissues fall off b.) Tissues can’t be put in another body. c.) when T cell bring destruction of foreign bodies. What is an autoimmune disease? a.) When the body mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. b.) Disease that can’t be cured. c.) Disease that stays in the body forever.
