2
Introduction Assessment and Valuing of Ecosystem Services are raising topics nowadays, but … How can we derive quantitative measures to estimate ESS?

The approach

The Biome-BGC model Biome-BGC version 4.1.1 was provided by the Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group (NTSG) at the University of Montana. Biome-BGC v4.1.1 Max Planck Institute (MPI) version was kindly provided by Galina Churkina. The MPI version contains model code modifications documented in Trusilova et al. 2009 MPI-BGC Technical Report 16. IN OUT

BBGC ESI & CICES Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services (CICES) ESI maxGRASS – yearly maximum of grass production, kgC/m 2 ESI annWOOD – annual wood increment, kgC/m 2 ESI LIVEBIO – live biomass: proxy for cleansing potential, kgC/m 2 ESI SOILPROT – sum of living and dead biomass protecting the soil against erosion, kgC/m 2 ESI DESDWO – damping of ecosystem daily water outflow, unitless ESI DECOMP – litter and coarse woody debris decomposition rate, kgC/m 2 /yr ESI HUMIF – humification in the soil, kgC/m 2 /yr ESI annNPP – annual net pri. production, kgC/m 2 ESI TCS – total carbon stock, kgC/m 2 ESI annET - energy absorption by evapotranspiration, kgH2O/m 2 /yr

Conclusions, remarks … HORVÁTH, F. et al. (2013) Deriving quantitative Ecosystem Service Indicators and developing new IT tool based on terrestrial ecosystem simulations. INTECOL Ecosystem Service session, Poster A6.10,19-08-2013 The e-Virtual Lab IT framework (biodiversity informatics) is powerful … Further developments are in progress on data retrieval services on model calibration tools (SA, DMH) on spatial extension on post processing evaluation services Cooperation, collaboration are very welcome
