Amelia Earhart – In 1932, she was the first to make a solo transatlantic flight. She landed in Ireland It took her 20 hours and 40 minutes She disappeared in the Pacific in 1937 while trying to fly around the world. Pioneers Contribute to the Development of Air Power

In the 1920s, small companies were formed to build private aircraft. The earliest was the Travel Air Manufacturing Company in 1925 in Wichita, Kansas. The company was formed by Lloyd Stearman, Clyde Cessna, and Walter Beech. Within the next few years, all three men broke away from Travel Air Manufacturing and started their own companies.
