Foundational: Christian Life God becomes big He is the Creator We are the created And there's humility
16
God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
17
in all your ways acknowledge him
18
King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth:
19
Peace be multiplied to you! It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me
20
How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion endures from generation to generation
21
Just prior to this… 90' Golden Statue
22
God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
23
There's a dream A great and powerful man Loses his mind
24
It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king… It is a decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king…
25
…that you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field…
26
You shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and you shall be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time shall pass over you…
27
…till you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will Acknowledge
28
And as it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be confirmed for you from the time that you know that Heaven rules
29
Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: break off your sins by practicing righteousness…
30
…and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed, that there may perhaps be a lengthening of your prosperity
31
"Your position Has a purpose, King" (This is always true)
32
Acknowledge God Not your own power Declare the truth of God's reign by your actions
33
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
34
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths - Prov. 3:5-6
35
All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon…
36
…and the king answered and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”
37
God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
38
While the words were still in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken:
39
The kingdom has departed from you, and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field
40
And you shall be made to eat grass like an ox, and seven periods of time shall pass over you…
41
Acknowledge God …until you know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will”
42
It all comes from God Yeah, but… It all comes from God I know, but… It all comes from God
43
Immediately the word was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from among men and ate grass like an ox
44
…and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair grew as long as eagles’ feathers, and his nails were like birds’ claws
45
At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me…
46
…and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion…
47
…and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing…
48
…and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth… God gave it or it's not his will
49
…and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?”
50
God gave it or it's not his will Acknowledge him "If only I could…" "But I just wish I looked like…" "If I had…"
51
At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor returned to me
52
My counselors and my lords sought me, and I was established in my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me
53
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble (Daniel 4)
54
Nebuchadnezzar: To all the people on earth… This is who God is!
55
When God lifts you up It is so that He might be More clearly seen
56
God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
57
Because the humble Direct praise to the Creator God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
58
The joy of man Is the glory of God The point of our glory and honor Is the praise of the One From whom it comes
59
This could be a one-off A unique situation We look at it and go, "Oh, OK…" Except…his son (next chapter)
60
God opposes the proud But gives grace to the humble - James 4:6
61
The Foundational Principle Of the Scriptures… Beyond anything else
62
Acknowledge God 50 times in Ezekiel alone: Then you will know that I am the Lord
63
If I don't start with the God Who is who he is Nothing else works out It becomes magical superstition Or moralistic religion
64
I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine
65
Then I bathed you with water and washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil. I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather
66
I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk. And I adorned you with ornaments and put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck
67
And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head
68
Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth
69
You ate fine flour and honey and oil. You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty
70
And your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord God
71
I gave you everything of value That you have And Covenanted to always Take care of you You wanted for nothing
72
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths
73
But you trusted in your beauty and played the whore because of your renown and lavished your whorings on any passerby; your beauty became his
74
I'm beautiful because of God I seek to use all that I have To bring honor and glory to him He is my value and my identity
75
I'm beautiful and it's my Identity My Source, my Value So I become filled with pride And do what I want
76
You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be
77
You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and with them played the whore
78
…And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured…
79
How sick is your heart, declares the Lord God, because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute
80
Lamenting Judgment coming: no pleasure …you shall know that I am the Lord - Ezekiel 16 (various)
81
50 times "I am the God of your Fathers" "Set up stones of remembrance"
