Stress in Your Life A.Stress is the reaction of the body and mind to everyday challenges and demands. B.Perception is the act of becoming aware through the senses. C.One way to manage stress is to change how you perceive and react to events that cause stress.

Reacting to Stress A.Stress is not necessarily good or bad; it can have positive or negative effects. B.Sometimes stress motivated you to do your best. C.The effects of stress can be unhealthy, such as when you’re so worried about a test that you don’t perform well.

What Causes Stress? A.A stressor is anything that causes stress. B.Some stressors affect different people in different ways. C.Psychologists have identified these five categories of stressors: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

The Body’s Stress Response A.Your body’s response to stressors is largely involuntary. It happens in three stages. 1. Alarm – both body and mind go on high alert. Heart rate, pulse, and respiration rate increases. 2. Resistance – body is briefly able to perform at a higher level of endurance 3. Fatigue – stress is prolonged

Stress and Your Health A.Excessive or prolonged stress can have negative effects on all aspects of your health. B. Sometimes stress can lead to a psychosomatic response, a physical reaction that results from stress rather than from injury or illness.

Taking Control of Chronic Stress A.One type of prolonged stress is chronic stress, stress associated with long-term problems that are beyond a person’s control. B.
