8 Objective: Plan a healthy week for yourself or your partner. Your work should be presented as a report. It should include: An exercise plan for the week. Calculations showing how many calories should be consumed each day. Appropriate food and drink consumption for a day. All mathematical calculations, clearly presented and explained. Your report should also: Take into account your needs, lifestyle and characteristics (e.g. age, weight, fitness). Show which websites you used for your information. Extra credit can be gained for: Any other appropriate advise to be followed during the week (e.g. time spent asleep).

9 Here is some useful information… If you stayed in bed all day and did nothing you still burn calories. These calories are used to; Maintain the bodies functions - to breathe, to keep the heart beating, to keep the body warm and all the other functions that keep the body alive, for growth and for repair. The amount of calories you would burn if you did nothing is called your Basal Metabolic rate (BMR) In addition to this you also burn calories by moving and contracting your muscles. This can be just sitting up, moving around a room, walking or exercise. You need to calculate your BMR and estimate how many calories you burn in addition to this (e.g. by moving around and by exercising). Finally if you go to the ‘O’ drive, maths, 10y2, there is a document with some useful Web links to help get you started.
