1
Chemical Bonding List the three types of bonds List the substances that compose the three types of bonds Draw the Lewis Dot Structure, Molecular Geometry, and identify the bond angle for CH 4
2
Covalent Bonding Draw a rough sketch of a Periodic Table and identify with arrows the direction of increasing trend for electronegativity and atomic radius. Which element has the highest electronegativity and atomic radius and the lowest electronegativity and atomic radius? Explain in your own words the relationship between electronegativity, atomic radius, and the ability atoms to bond with other atoms.
3
What is it? Resonance Polarity Dipole Moment
4
Poster Slide One (1 if 2) Choose one of the following compounds: H 2 O, NH 3 Draw either a ball-and-stick or space-filling model for your molecule
5
Poster Slide 2 Calculate the delta electronegativity for the bonds in your molecule. Label the delta EN on your drawing and label if it is polar or non-polar. If your molecule has polar bonds, label the partial positive and the partial negative atoms. Even though the bonds within your compound are polar or non-polar, the molecule itself may be the opposite in polarity. What is the polarity of your overall molecule – polar or non-polar? Does your compound have resonance structures?
