Natural resources Any natural material that is used by humans Example: – Water – Petroleum – Minerals – Forests – Animals

Natural Resources Nonrenewable resource A resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate at which it is consumed Example: – Oil – Coal – Nuclear energy – Minerals – Natural gas – Wood – Animals

Natural Resources Renewable resources Natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate at which the resource is consumed Examples: – Wind – Solar – Water – Geothermal

Natural Resources Conserving natural resources Use resources only when necessary Take care of resources…even when not using them Energy conservation Reduce, reuse, recycle

Natural Resources Energy conservation Natural resources used for energy: – Heat homes – Drive cars – Run computers Conserve energy! – Turn off lights – Use full washing machine – Bike, walk, mass transit
