2.  It’s Easy! Just remember  CUBES How can I do well on the test??

3. First, set up your three pieces of paper:  Place one piece on desk  Lay next piece on top with a little finger worth of space  Repeat with the last piece  Now flip the papers over and fold in half

4. Your paper should look like this:  Raise your hand if you need any help

5.  Each letter stands for a different way to attack the questions.  Copy each letter and the strategy on your foldable like this:  Then copy the notes and examples inside. Now, what does CUBES have to do with testing? C – Circle key numbers

6.  This means that if you see numbers in the question, circle them! C – circle key numbers

7.  What answer is the question asking for?  Look for question marks and underline the WHOLE question. U – underline the question

8.  Add, sum, together, total  Subtract, difference, left  Multiply, times, product  Divide, quotient, break into B – box any action words

9.  Make a plan – where do you go from here?  Label steps in order on the problem so that you don’t forget any steps. E –evaluate (what steps do I take)

10.  After following all the steps, go back and CHECK your work.  If you had to add to get the answer, try subtracting those numbers and see if you get the original number. S – Solve and Check

11.  Each pair of students will receive a sample question.  Use CUBES to solve the question.  Raise your hand if you need any help. Let’s check your understanding.
