5 A POWERFUL VISION… n Is forward looking, inspiring, and lofty n Is vivid and clear n Allows for changes in the environment n Does not state the obvious n Is an extension of the core beliefs of the members

6 GOAL SETTING n Understand the task n Diagnose subordinate readiness n Build ownership by involving subordinates n Set Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) n Set specific but attainable goals n Prioritize goals and sub-goals n Make intermediate adjustments if needed n Provide feedback and recognize accomplishment

7 EMPOWERMENT n The process of providing organizational members the authority and responsibility to make decisions n Empowerment involves structural, political, and cultural changes in an organization to bring about higher performance
