1 Maximizing the Effectiveness of Your Library Media Center Using Achieving Exemplary School Libraries Evaluation Rubrics

2 Objective 1 – Library Media Center Advisory Committee What is it? Why have one? Who should be on this committee? How should the committee be organized? How often should it meet? What are the responsibilities?

3 Advisory Committee does… Not decide program Not define LMS job and responsibilities Not take over any LMS job functions Support the LMS and LMP Advise the LMS Assist the LMS Advocate for the LMP and LMS

4 What does the LMCAC do? collaboratively The LMCAC should work collaboratively with the library media specialist: To develop, implement, evaluate, and revise a strategic plan for the LMC To monitor and evaluate the progress in meeting the goal(s) and objectives of the strategic plan To complete an annual report to the school community about the progress of the plan

5 Responsibilities Advocates for LMP Sounding Board for LMS Link between LMS and other faculty members Link between LMS and the broader community Assists with evaluation of LMP Assists with conducting needs assessments Assists in developing LMC Long-range plans Facilitates program implementation Assists with preparing end-of-year report

6 LMC Planning LMCAC should assist the LMS in strategic planning for the LMP (others may be added at the invitation of the LMS) Planning includes –Collection development –Funding –Scheduling –Program development and implementation –Program evaluation

7 Evaluation The LMCAC should assist the LMS in preparing a final report to the administration and school community to include (but not limited to) –Progress made on implementing the strategic plan –Status of collection –Results of LMC evaluation –Proposed revisions of goal(s) and objectives for next year
