ASCCC Fall Plenary 2015 Big Themes – Accreditation Report – Task Force on Workforce Report – Equity and Diversity – students and faculty (hiring) – Distance Education – ADTs and Baccalaureate Degree – BS, SSSP, SEP Task Force forming – Institutional Effectiveness Initiative

Hot topics in Online Education Accreditation – Online is a focus of ACCJC! – More than 50% online requires substantive change; issue is usually GE – Equal services – Policies/procedures – Annual Report of offerings Accessibility – P&P, demonstrate compliance, assign responsible person – Canvas has committed to improving and is working with groups (e.g. National Institute for the Blind)

Hot topics in Online Education Authorization – CCCs are working on establishing state wide agreements so that students can choose – not there yet! Authentication – Logging in through portal ok now but may need more in future: retinal & finger print scans, key stroke analysis CANVAS – lots of schools still struggling with decision or implementation. PEW research supports one LMS system for all of CCCs – beneficial for student success

Task Force on Workforce Wide reaching changes – Definition of student success to include jobs – Recognition of skill building – Emphasize team teaching – Equalize pay – Review curricular processes with CTE in mind – Regional coordination, Sectors may be redrawn – Move away from growth model (most CTE programs are slow growing or stable)

Empowering Part Time Faculty Participation in Senate and governance Communication and resources tailored to specific/unique needs and concerns Pay for flex time (SJCC = 12 hours); paid office hours ½ -1 hour per week Space where full time and part time faculty have opportunity to mingle Even though folks say we need to take action – solutions were not very evident. Most colleges struggle with this.

And The Beat Goes On: Effective practices for meeting the ACCJC 2014 standards Systematic – Ongoing – Longitudinal Embed standards into committee work and meeting minutes Inform and reach out to everyone! Workshops and training – ongoing Standing Accreditation Committee with feedback loop to the Senate Key perspective – what do you know? How do you know it?

And The Beat Goes On…. Make sure to respond to the whole question – each and every part Program review if foundational for every standard Quality Essay – 5000 words. Be honest! Don’t use hyperbole (Reedly example) Share with other colleges who have just been through the process Hold a mock visit to prepare Napa Valley (piloted the 2014 standards) welcomes other colleges to use their report as a guide. Team liked it but won’t know the results of their visit until early next year
