4 Chalk for heartburn Calamine for skin irritations Chinchona bark for fevers Chinchona bark was later discovered to be a treatment for the disease Malaria Apothecaries also sold other home items for profit: Cooking spices Candles Salad oil Anchovies Toothpaste Tobacco

5 They provided surgical, midwifery, dental, and general medical services. Leeches were usually used on patients in colonial times. Doctors & Apothecaries are much alike, but very different. Most did the trade & some owned apothecary shops, or a “drug store.”
