Predictionsand Meaning Predictions – In twenty years, 2035 the Black Foot Ferret population would be approximately 641 animals. – The animal will move to the “vulnerable” status in the year 2825. Meaning – The y intercept reflects the starting value of the ferret population. This value is calculated at approximately -23,274 animals, with a year of zero. – The x intercept reflects where there would be NO population. This value is calculated at approximately the year 1981.

Cause for Error The y-intercept having a negative number is a concern. This could be due to two reasons. The first being that there are only five data points to calculate the line of best fit, as more data points are provided the line will adjust to a more accurate function. The second being that our timeline is broken up into B.C. and A.D.; this historical break in time allows for a negative intercept, as the y – axis would separate the timelines. Therefore there would be no ferret population in the year 23,274 B.C.
