Introduction In order to promote positive, social interactions between students and instill Godly values, appropriate literature will be incorporated into the curriculum to give students the knowledge they need to make choices that will impact them in a way that will empower them to become successful and valued citizens in their community.

Integrative Question What impact can literature have on the respectful, social interactions and values of students as future citizens?

Personal Assumptions Faith * We were created to do wonderful works * Train a child the way he should go … and he will not depart from it. Prov. 22:6 * We are to treat our neighbor as we treat ourselves Teaching * Teachers are partners with parents in giving a child all the skills necessary for success * Teachers introduce and instill new perspectives to empower students with a wider range of choices

Methods After reflecting on my beliefs about the value of human beings and their responsibility to each other, I realized as a teacher it is my responsibility to my students to reveal a wider point of view which gives them a more complete education. Because I am an avid reader which has opened my eyes to new viewpoints, I know I can use literature in my reading classroom to introduce a different way of looking at life through book characters’ feelings, thoughts, and actions.

Conclusion In the beginning there was the word. The word was with God and the word was God. John 1:1 These words are hidden in my heart and I choose to live them out through my teaching. The words we use, whether written, read, or said, have a powerful effect on each other.
