Social media must become a business tool -MI saw a 300% increase in followers from this event -Who will be responsible during an emergency? 2

Know Your Resources Ahead of Time Online information – DOH and SKCPH websites – Notification templates – Information for customers – EPA Total Coliform Rule website Within the Department or City – Identifying skills needed – Equipment and/or supplies – Volunteers / CERT Mutual aid – Capabilities of other utilities – Technical, physical, PIO, etc. Consulting Engineers

Managing Sustained Emergency Operations Emergency response doesn’t normally extend past 3 days – ICS training doesn’t emphasize managing extended events Critical elements – Staffing – Food and shelter/lodging – Equipment and supplies Use of mutual aid – When and how Event Documentation – Logs, photos, work orders, etc.
