George Whitefield was a prominent English preacher in the early 18 th century. He founded Bethesda, which was a home for orphans near Savannah in the 1740’s. He also was a major evangelist for the Anglican Church. Bethesda continued until 1805 Georgia was the youngest of all the original 13 colonies. Dependent on trade with Great Britain. in the 1700's the official colony of Georgia had not been established until 1732, becoming the last of the original 13 colonies mainly based off plantations growing both indigo and rice. Slavery didn't come until James Oglethorpe took away the ban on slavery due to constant complaints from the settlers. The farmers grew cotton, indigo, rice and tobacco and they traded and exported all the things that they grew.
