W HAT D OES THE P RESIDENT D O ? Roles and Duties: Preside over meetings – (use confidence and have a strong workable knowledge of parliamentary procedure) Keep order, be fair and neutral on issues Ensure that all voices and opinions are heard Cast deciding vote when there is a tie

T HE P RESIDENT ? CONTINUED Stand and use the podium and or gavel with confidence but do not abuse such “power” Avoid the use of “I” as a president – use phrases like, “the chair” or “your president”

T HE P RESIDENT ? CONTINUED If you feel strongly about sharing your personal opinions on a subject, you must give the chair to the vice president and you cannot resume as president until the issue has been decided When absent from a meeting, let the club leader and Vice President know in advance so they can arrange to fulfill your duties

V ICE P RESIDENTS – W HERE DO THEY FIT ? Vice Presidents need to follow all of the rules previously stated about the President in case they have to preside in the absence of the President Include other officers/members to help you plan the monthly programs Make sure the President is aware of your programming ideas so he/she is not caught off guard
