Habitat Habitat The Burrowing owl likes to live in the prairies. Also the Borrowing owl likes to live in dry dirt. When the owl finds a good spot it will start to make a burrow but they prefer one that they find that is already made.
4
Food Food The burrowing owl eats lots of insects, mice, voles, ground squirrels and toads. It also eats dead animals. They also prey on birds, amphibians and reptiles.
5
Family Family The male prepares the nest for the young's arrival. The mom lays 6-12 eggs. In four weeks the eggs start hatching at different times. The egg laid first will hatch first.
6
Problems Problems The burrowing owl is endangered because of too many predators, not enough borrows, and loss of grassland. Pollution and spray used to kill grass hoppers harm the owls.
7
Solutions Solutions People can help save the Burrowing Owl by leaving the nests they find alone. Also you set aside part of your land so the burrowing owl can nest around that area. The farmers should be more careful when they are spraying for the weeds and the grasshoppers because if the owls are near by it will be harmful.
