The Silk Road A merchant, Marco Polo, left Venice with uncle and father at age 17 in 1271 to go to China Guests of Emperor Kublai Khan, and visited amazing palace Chinese got wealth from silk cloth(“worth its weight in gold”), tea, and spices that traveled along the Silk Road out of China for trade Chinese used paper money instead of metal; used coal for fuel instead of wood, and had fireworks and gunpowder – more advanced in these ways than Europe

Chinese Sailors In about 1405, China began building naval fleet to expand Chinese power and trade ships took off with hundreds of sailors using magnetic compass, and under the command of Zheng He. Seven voyages were made, breeding popularity of Chinese goods Went to East Indies, India, Arabia, African east coast, the Red Sea, and into Persian Empire

Marco Polo: Their goal was to bring back valuable trading goods from China. When he reached Shangdu, became guests of Emperor Kublai Khan, & visited his amazing palace.

Kublai Khan Was the emperor of China when Marco Polo arrived
reigning from 1260 to 1294, and the founder of the Chinese Yuan dynasty, a division of the Mongol Empire.
