12 Grades 3-8 STAAR General SSI Requirements Students Taking Advanced Courses Misc. None in 2011-12 No retest opportunities for grades 5 & 8 Promotion/retention decisions based on the same academic information used to make these decisions in non-SSI grades Course with EOC = Student takes EOC Course encompasses all TEKS = Student takes above grade level STAAR in that content area Students in grades 5 and 8 may not be denied promotion based on unsatisfactory performance on STAAR assessments above their enrolled grade level. 13 EOC STAAR General Course GradesCumulative Scores Misc. EOC score must count for 15% of the student’s final grade in the course TEA does not plan on releasing a score conversion chart ≥ The number of EOCs X Passing Scale Score (Level II) A student must achieve a minimum score on an EOC assessment for the score to count toward his or her cumulative score Highest score on each EOC assessment within a content area will be used Cumulative Score Misc. Vertical alignment that will allow scores to be compared across different grades for the same subject and language version Increased rigor and focus Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, English I, English II, English III, World Geography, World History, and U.S. History EOCs Misc. Teachers are provided only two opportunities to pass the new STARR Alternate qualifications at 80% © 2011 REGION XIII

Grades 3-8 and EOC in Math, Science and Social Studies Composed of STAAR test forms in English that have built-in computer-based linguistic accommodations designed for ELLs who are eligible for a significant degree of linguistic accommodation 2 accommodations - clarification of unfamiliar English and reading aloud of text All ELLs are required to participate; no exemptions Spanish-version assessment does not exist or is not the most appropriate measure of the student’s academic progress Student has not yet attained an advanced high rating on TELPAS reading Student has been enrolled in U.S. schools for 3 school years or less Participation Misc. No modified option – students take STAAR Modified in English with accommodations In 2013, online testing program ELLs in grades 2–12 who enter U.S. schools in the 2 nd semester of the school year and do not speak English will no longer be eligible to automatically be assigned a rating of beginning without taking the reading test. The students will take the test and receive scores based on their test performance © 2011 REGION XIII
