3 What is an Outline An outline is a way to organize ideas or facts in a logical order It is a plan for writing, telling, or doing something. An Outline includes only main ideas and important details.

4 Why Do You Make Outlines?
Making an Outline will save you time and make your project easier and better To make and Outline, you group ideas or facts together. As you group them, you will be able to :

5 Why do you make Outlines?
Organize your information by topic Include all the important information Leave out any information that doesn’t fit Plan your project in a logical way.

6 What are the Parts of an Outline?
An Outline may have 4 parts Roman Numbers Capital Letters Arabic Numbers Lower case letters Always indent when you create an Outline.

7 Outline Parts Title - The TITLE tells you what the outline is about. Your Title Should not be in your Outline

8 Beginning to Outline Start your Outline with the a Roman Number, which is where you record your Main topic. Next record your Subtopic that relates to the Main topic and you should use Capital letters.

9 Beginning to Outline Record details that support your subtopic next to Arabic numbers. Then if any extra facts or details are needed use lower case letters to record each. that support your subtopic

18 Mind Mapping Mind mapping is another way to take notes that you may find fun. It is a visual “map” of how supporting details relate to the main ideas. Mind maps are less formal then outlines and allow you to use any pattern that works best for you.

19 Directions: The look of your mind map is up to you, but these basic directions will make using a mind map is easy. 1. First, identify the main ideas and supporting details of what you are reading. Write the subject or topic in the middle of the page. Then draw a circle or box around it. 3. Find the main idea that relate to the topic

20 Continued Directions Draw one line from the topic to each main idea and write the main ideas. 5. Write all relevant details on lines that connect to the main ideas they support. 6. Practice mind mapping by following the above directions for the information in your textbooks.
