2 What are they? The basics Dropbox ▪ http://www.dropbox.com http://www.dropbox.com ▪ Heard of storing things in the cloud? Dropbox is one way to do this. ▪ Dropbox stores files over the internet so that you can access them anywhere. Dropittome ▪ http://dropitto.me http://dropitto.me ▪ Dropittome is a web-based service that allows individuals to contribute their own files to your dropbox without having access to any of the files themselves. ▪ I use this service to collect student work;

3 Let’s start with Dropbox ▪ Why use dropbox? – You can access it from any computer. If you work on something on a home computer, it will automatically have the updated file on your school tablet. – While you must be on remote desktop or the school network to access student work from the Y:Drive, you do not need the Wesleyan network to access student work with Dropbox. – Students do not have access to any of the files. They cannot see each others work or grades. – You can save time both collecting and returning graded work. ▪ Ways to use dropbox – Collect and save student work – Create student graded work portfolios / writing portfolios, etc that can be accessed by students and parents but not edited

5 And Now Dropittome ▪ Why use Dropittome? – It is very quick. There is a two-step process that allows students to upload work. – Student work submissions will not fill up your email box. – Like a windows file library, everything is still time stamped. – Students will receive confirmation that their upload was successful - no excuses! – Students never see the dropbox, itself. This keeps them from seeing their peers’ work and graded work.

9 Some things I’ve learned along the way ▪ Have a formula for titling documents. Mine is: #_LastName_Assignment. – Just like anywhere else, you can’t have two files with the same name in a folder. The folder will always accept the most recent submission, replacing the older ones. – A formula like the one above will result in a folder that is organized first by period, then alphabetically, and then my assignment. Organizational magic! – Teaching students the above reasons for the title formula will help them to use it correctly – they want you to be able to find their work! ▪ Consider having students save their work as PDFs when submitting. – To me, this is the easiest way to view a OneNote page. – Work can be graded on PDF annotator. – It will cement any of their formatting.

10 Getting Organized and Sharing 1.How you organize is ultimately up to you, but we will head over to my dropbox just so that you can see how I have found these services to be most efficient and effective. 2.Sharing is another useful feature that I can best explain by simply showing you how I use it.
