Isaac prayed to God so that Rebekah could have a child. Dear Lord, Please let Rebekah have a baby.

Rebekah got pregnant. It was very painful. God explained why.

Esau was born first. Jacob was holding Esau’s heel, trying to be first.

Esau grew up to be a hunter. His father loved him best.

Jacob was a quiet man who stayed near the tents. His mom loved him best.

One day, Esau came home from hunting. He was famished. Jacob was making soup.

Jacob only agreed to share the soup if Esau would trade his birthright.

So Esau did it. He traded his birthright for some soup.

Later when Isaac was about to die, he asked Esau to hunt and make a special meal for him. Then Isaac would give Esau the blessing.

Rebekah overhead Esau and Isaac speaking.

Rebekah and Jacob made a plan to trick Isaac so Jacob could get the blessing.

Jacob wore fur on his body so he would feel hairy. Isaac was tricked into praying a blessing over Jacob.

Later Esau came with his food, and he wanted his blessing.

Esau was upset. He had been deceived once again by Jacob.

Esau swore that he would kill Jacob after Isaac dies.

Later, Isaac tells Jacob not to marry any Canaanite women. He wants Jacob to find a wife from Rebekah’s family.

While traveling, Jacob had a dream. God reminded him of the promise.

Jacob went to his uncle, Laban. Laban had two daughters: Leah and Rachel.

Leah had weak eyes.

Rachel was lovely in form and beautiful. Jacob was in love with Rachel.

Jacob promised to work 7 years for Laban so he could marry Rachel.

After 7 years, Jacob finally could marry Rachel.

On the wedding night, Laban put a veil on Leah and gave her to Jacob. Jacob did not know it was Leah.

Jacob was angry. Laban tricked him. Laban gave Leah instead of Rachel.

Laban made Jacob work another 7 years to get Rachel.

Jacob and Rachel married too.

Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah.

And Jacob worked another 7 years for Laban.

Jacob wants to leave Laban’s home. Jacob worked hard to trick Laban by getting the stronger animals for himself.

I’m not happy! See ya! Jacob secretly ran away from Laban’s house, taking Leah, Rachel, and all their children.

Laban chased after Jacob, following him into the desert.

Laban and Jacob promised not to bother each other or hurt each other again. They agreed not to cross a boundary between them.

Jacob had his family cross the river into Canaan. He was worried because he heard that Esau was coming to meet him.

Jacob didn’t cross the river. He was alone.

Suddenly, a man came to wrestle him.

They wrestled all night.

The man touched Jacob’s hip, pulling it out of socket.

God blessed Jacob. Jacob would now be called Israel.

Israel would now walk with a limp for the rest of his life.

Jacob and Esau meet. Esau forgave Jacob. They parted peacefully.

One day, Dina (Jacob and Leah’s daughter) was out meeting other women. A Prince named Shechem saw her. He violated her.

Prince Shechem wanted his father, the King, to get Dina as a bride.

The sons of Jacob were furious!

The King asked for the two people groups to unite in marriage and have an alliance.

Jacob’s sons said that the King’s people had to be circumcised in order for them to agree.

All the men were circumcised. They were in pain for a few days.

Simeon and Levi went into the city with swords.

They killed all the men.

They killed the King.

They killed Shechem.

They took Dina home.

Jacob’s other sons plundered the city—taking the riches, women, and children.

Jacob was furious about this.

Simeon and Levi tried to justify their actions.

Jacob and his family moved to Bethel in Canaan.

Rachel died there while giving birth to a son named Benjamin.

The family stayed there for a while.
