Overview Lack of widespread availability of IPv6-capable home gateways impacts IPv6 service enablement Specifications to facilitate development generally have been lacking – Situation is improving Most deployed gateways today are likely not able to support IPv6 – There are some signs of next generation gateways that support IPv6 – What to do about legacy gateways, if anything?

Specifications v6ops DRAFT outlining IPv6 CPE requirements is progressing – draft-ietf-v6ops-ipv6-cpe-router-02 Phased approach at defining IPv6 requirements – Represents requirements across different types of providers – Phase I is underway; Phase II is forthcoming

Objectives Goal is to ensure that IPv6 CPE requirements are comprehensive – Provide additional feedback to v6ops as needed Potential HOMEGATE areas of work: – Best practices – ISP/network deployment considerations and models – Home network deployment considerations and models – Dual-stack operation recommendations – Security recommendations – DNS and DHCPv6 considerations

Next step Produce documents as part of HOMEGATE Identify areas of work for other working groups – v6ops informational and or BCPs documents
