2. The city of Le Havre was founded in 1517 by king François the first

3. The city has known a strong growth thanks to its port

4. But this development was cut by the destruction of almost all the city, during the bombing of 2nd World War.

5. After the liberation it was reconstructed by the architect Auguste Perret, and restarted its growth.

6. Today there are about 200 000 inhabitants, whether 4233 inhabitants per m²: Le Havre is the eleventh French city.

7. From 1971 to 1995 the city was directed by the PCF: Parti Communiste Français (the equivalent of the Democratic party in the USA).

8. Since this date, the two last mayors belong to UMP (can be associate to the Republican party in the USA).

9. Today Le Havre’s mayor is Edouard Philippe.
