We have been looking at words that have the same middle sound. We are going to do that again today. I am going to say a group of words. I want you to listen carefully to the sounds in the words. It will be your job to figure out which sound is the same in the words I say. Here is the first group of words.

Sun Rug Mud I hear /u/ in the middle of each word. The sound in the middle of sun, rug, and mud is the same.

The Gingerbread Man We have been talking about ways to help us understand what we read. One way is to remember the order in which things happen in a story. Remembering what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of a story can help us understand the story.

The Gingerbread Man We are going to read this story. Can anyone tell me what they think this story will be about? We have been talking about the setting of a story. What is the setting of a story? As I read, listen for the setting and for what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Story response After people read a story, they sometimes like to tell what they think about it. They might tell about their favorite part, their favorite character, or why they liked the story. We are going to write about our favorite part of The Gingerbread Man. What do you think we should write first?
