In English, a demonstrative adjective is one that will describe a noun. Ejemplos: That book. Those papers. This essay. Those grades.

In Spanish, you must be careful about how you use demonstrative adjectives. Ejemplos (this): What is this? ¿Qué es esto? (Neutral term) This book Este libro. (Singular, followed by a masculine noun) These books Estos libros. (Plural, followed by masculine nouns) This pen Esta pluma. (Singular, followed by feminine nouns) These pens Estas plumas. (Plural, followed by feminine nouns)

Now that you know how to use the terms “this,” we’ll go ahead and take a look at the word “that.” Ejemplos (that): What is that? ¿Qué es eso? (Neutral term) That book Ese libro. Those books Esos libros. That pen Esa pluma. Those pens Esas plumas.

Finally, we will take a look at how to say “that…over there.” Ejemplos (that/those…over there) Aquel libro That book (over there) Aquellos libros Those books (over there) Aquella pluma That pen (over there) Aquellas plumas Those pens (over there) ¡Ojo! Be sure to note that we are taking into consideration number and gender while using these adjectives!!!
